Fashion Incubator Program 

Program Description:

The Fashion Incubator Program is designed to prepare participants for the future in fashion design. This program provides participants the opportunity to gain the foundational skills and sensibilities needed to pursue a fashion education that is in solid and enjoyable. In the Fashion Incubator Program participants can gain the strong foundation in sewing and draping that will enable them to make their own clothes and even begin their first collection pieces. The Fashion Incubator

Program’s Elements of Fashion Design in combination with Fashion Illustration will provide participants with the opportunity to develop the sensibilities they need to successfully know where and how to look for inspirations for creating a collection as well as to sketch and illustrate that collection. In addition to the Fashion Incubator Program’s workshops additional optional workshops are available such as the Fashion Trend Forecasting Workshop Series to build upon the solid foundation the Fashion Incubator Program provides for lifelong learning and growth in fashion design.

MODULE 1: WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS

Studio Methods –Studio Methods Level I participants will explore apparel styles and garment construction through draping, sewing, and pattern drafting. This workshop is carefully designed to works in tandem with Elements of Fashion Design. NOTE: All participants in Studio Methods Level I will participate in a specially designed Studio Methods Level I Laboratory Workshop

 Fashion Illustration – Fashion Illustration Level I participants will explore proportions, balance lines, rendering and using principles of drawing current in the industry. With these skills participants will have the opportunity to develop provide the foundation skills needed to develop an industry portfolio.*  NOTE: All participants in Fashion Illustration Level I will participate in a specially designed Fashion Illustration Level I Laboratory Workshop.  ADDITIONALNOTE: The successful completion of Fashion Illustration Level II, III & IV are also required to prepare and complete a professional portfolio.

Fashion Design/Elements of Design – Fashion Design/Elements of Design Level I will be introduced to basic methods of creating and expressing fashion concepts in two-dimensional representation, textile and fabric development. Research, critical thinking, and presentation methods are key components. NOTE: All participants in Fashion Design/Elements of Design Level I will participate in a specially designed Fashion Design/Elements of Design Level I Laboratory workshop.

Fashion Research I (Guided Studies): In this guided workshop participants will further develop their knowledge of contemporary designers, key industry trends and publications by building and maintaining their own fashion research blog.  NOTE: The research blog participants develop in Fashion Research I will be developed throughout the course of the Fashion Incubator Program.

Fashion Practicum I (Guided Studies): Fashion Practicum I participants are given the opportunity to explore and develop their skills in this guided practicum by working in brief project oriented internship opportunities that allow them to build upon the work in their other workshops. Participants are expected to complete a minimum of ten hours work in this guided independent study.

This workshop works in tandem with Fashion Design/Elements of Design II. NOTE: All participants in Studio Methods Level II will participate in a specially designed Studio Methods Level II Laboratory workshop.

Fashion Illustration II – Fashion Illustration Level II participants will continue to explore proportions, balance lines, rendering with color and using principles of drawing used in the industry. These skills allow participants to further build the foundations needed for the successful completion of an industry portfolio. NOTE: All participants in Fashion Illustration Level II will participate in a specially designed Fashion Illustration Level II Laboratory workshop.

Fashion Design/Elements of Design II – Fashion Design/Elements of Design Level II participants will have the opportunity to further develop and move towards mastering the skills and methods need for creating fashion concepts in two dimensional representation, textile and fabric development. Research, critical thinking, and presentation methods are key components. Fashion collection will be the final project. NOTE: All participants in Fashion Design/Elements of Design Level II will participate in a specially designed Fashion Design/Elements of Design Level II Laboratory workshop.

Fashion Research II (Guided Studies): In this guided workshop participants will have the opportunity to build upon their work in Fashion Research II by learning to develop color and thoughtful commentary to the contemporary designers, key industry trends and publications they are tracking on their own fashion research blog. NOTE: The research blog participants develop in Fashion Research II will be developed throughout the course of the Fashion Incubator Program.

Fashion Practicum II (Guided Studies): Fashion Practicum II participants are given the opportunity to further explore and develop their developing skills in this guided practicum by working on project oriented internship opportunities that allow them to advance the work they are completing in other workshops. Participants are expected to complete a minimum of twenty hours work in this guided independent study.
